Mega Man Level v2
The edits I did not the game were incredibly minor. From the first iteration I was not fortunate to receive a great deal of constructive criticism. Because of that, the second version is quite similar in the majority of aspects compared to that of the first.
Most notably, the algorithm did not pick this level up either. As at the time of writing, it has a rating of one like and zero dislikes. This is in stark contrast to the first level which still has a rating of seven likes and two dislikes. I don't think the quality of the level has anything to contribute to regarding this score, I jus think it simply got unlucky compared to the first.
Before getting into the play tests. I wanna talk about my potentially most controversial change, or more or so lack off. One of the biggest thinks the play testers talked about in the first level was the beginning jump. It was very difficult, but when past, gave the players the confidence to handle any future parkour with ease. And because there was no penalty of death, or even a timer, they had a infinite amount of tries to beat it. Because of this, I felt as it contributed heavily to the entertainment, but more importantly teaching aspect, of the level. This is why I chose to keep it in the 2nd level as well.
Another portion that came to mind regarding difficulty was the vertical-like maze that made up a significant portion of the underground area. This was also designed to give very little room for mistakes, with the penalty being death. Because of its potential difficulty though, I added a checkpoint before and after this area. But since players were so confident in their abilities after beating the first jump, none of them seemed to mind the difficulty (which could be seen as less) in this area. Likewise I did nothing to make it easier or shorter.
The biggest change to the level was the "boss" battle. Note that this was not an actual boss and could simply be jumped over to end the level. The enemy though was regarded as too easy. I fixed this by stacking two of the same enemies in the same tile. Giving the player the appearance theres only one, except with double the health and fire rate.
